A simple toying of the idea to burn chopsticks and make my own charcoal had turned into this pattern I had made across the entire sheet of paper. With this pattern, I connected it to the events happening in early 2020 when news came out about the large wildfires in Australia. The DIY charcoal coming from burnt wood reminded me of burnt trees; looking at the pattern full-on feels 3-dimensional, looking into a deep forest. The title connects to our response/lack there of for working to put them out and the large impact it had to our earth that we should be taking better care of. I aspire to make this into a full installation where all the walls are covered in this, with the viewer to have the feeling of walking into the aftermath of the fires.
